Visiting Dallas and the Awesome DFW Rental Car Terminal

August 9, 2007

I just got back from Dallas, where I watched Sarah, a friend from 7th grade, get married. It was a nice, small service officiated by a judge. It was great to catch up with Sarah's family and to meet Sarah's husband and her friends from the Peace Corps and law school.

I stayed with another Sarah, a friend from graduate school, and she and her husband were nice enough to show me around Dallas and Fort Worth. My favorite stop was the Fort Worth Water Gardens. The bottom of the active pool was like being in the middle of a Grand Canyon waterfall.

During the trip, I also had the best rental car experience of my life. The Dallas Fort Worth Airport has a separate terminal for rental cars. After getting off the plane, I took a shuttle to the rental car terminal and strolled up to the National booth. National has implemented a new system for Priceline members that makes it possible to check-in online. So, I was able to get a rental car without ever having to listen to a hard-sell by a rental car salesperson. The whole experience made me very appreciative of the Dallas Fort Worth Airport and National. If I could, I would ask Priceline to let me bid on just National rentals. Having all of the rental car agencies in one place was so much more convenient that waiting for a specific agency's car. I hope that more airports decide to go the way of the Dallas Fort Worth airport.
